Roland Nilsson är född 1950 i Malmö och är fjärde generationen fiolbyggare. Utbildad i firman av sin far Bengt Nilsson och på Staatliche Fachschule für Geigenbau i Mittenwald i Tyskland.
Förrutom SVBM är Roland medlem i EILA (Internationella fiolbyggarförbundet) VDG (Tyska fiolbyggarförbundet)
